Cable Soccer Viewership, Apr 27-May 3

Week 18 of  2021 is in the books and with it, we saw something a little bit different - the supporter protests at Old Trafford. NBCSN stuck with the studio during the event. It drew the highest rating and viewership of the week (0.20 / 522k) which makes it the 9th highest Premier League program on the year.

Some other quick call outs - 

• TUDN viewership is good for "big club" Mexican teams during these late-round Concacaf matches. FS1 pull much less interest, which suggests that English-speaking MLS fans aren't too interested.

• The match between LAFC and Houston Dynamo was on a bunch of places (Univision, Twitter, TUDN) so it wasn't terribly surprising the match on TUDN did not make the top 150 rated shows on Saturday.

• NBC would have much rather the match between Manchester United and Liverpool been played as scheduled. Both teams can pull better than 500k (particularly United who practically own the top 20 soccer games on cable) so I'm sure there are a few sponsors/advertisers upset. That was the point, however, of the protest.

• Light week of MLS league play but that changes this coming weekend... Saturday, LAFC v LA Galaxy play on Fox, and then an ABC doubleheader on Sunday. It's as big a showcase for MLS as I've seen in recent years and it's very important for the league to have hits on each if they want a better TV deal.
