The Women's World Cup finale edges out Messi and the League's Cup.
Highlights/Lowlights:
• The Leagues Cup final pulls 1.5m and another 306k on TUDN on the back of Messi. Without Messi doing the heavy lifting for this tournament, I think it's a dud. Don Garber came out very strong in support of it sticking around, however. There's a reason these sorts of things don't exist elsewhere or only happen once every four years. What would a "Messi-less" Leagues Cup pull? Probably less than half in Univision. 0.0 on FS1 and a tiny audience on Season Pass.
• The Premier League accounted for nearly 40% of all viewership last week as their season is getting underway. Manchester United vs. Tottenham pulled a solid 822k on NBC (Peacock not given).
• Liga MX quietly got back in the saddle. I poor 430k showing on Univision, however. Again, I think the impact of the Leagues Cup and Messi has changed things. Short term for sure. Why watch anything else besides the Messi tour? Not sure about long term... yet.
• Back to the WWC - 1.8m for the 6 AM final is probably about what people expected. I believe a USWNT-less world is healthy for the women's game. Something else worth mentioning is that WWC studio shows didn't pop in last week. Something else, else... no streaming figures given for the final, which means they weren't good.
