For the Lawyer Out There

Enjoy THIS.

It's from The Off Tackle Empire and the post is about the OSU mess. Always enjoy reading what our friends in law think during relaxed moments.

May favorite tid-bit of the morning?

Other Shoe? OSU.

"Young People"

Heard that a lot this evening from the characters involved in the drama that is going on at Ohio State. Jim Tressel, coach of the Buckeyes has stepped in it, or did step in it when he found out about players on his team being involved with a tattoo parlor being investigated by the feds. The problem here is that he found out 7 months before anyone else and said nothing.

I like Tressel. He is a good man. He has earned a lot of clout over the past decade coaching and that will serve him over the next year. He is right in the middle of a high-holy-shitstorm right now and I wish him the best. I do not think he was covering up for his players just to play them to win. I think he was genuinely trying to protect them. Them being: "young people".

Now... the rest of the University? Then NCAA infractions committee will not be as kind. I think it will result in vacated wins, loss of scholarships and no relaxing on the suspensions of the players involved (5 games). Anything the NCAA can smack on the University, they will.

Is this 'the other shoe' I wrote about back on December 18th?:

"Mark my words... Another shoe has yet to fall and it will be ugly. This school's reputation has taken a major hit. I'm not that old, but old enough to know that when this happens... you are done for years."

No. It is not. Imagine the shoe just getting let go. I know it will hit a some point for sure now. I still think the players have a bigger story that will come back to bite them. The feds ain't done with this one yet. If they come back, knocking on Jim's door about why he didn't say anything earlier? not good.

My last thought for now on this is on AD Gene Smith. I think his is arrogant and a lot of other nasty things. His hands are all over this. The road will lead to him.

Mark my words.

Mini: Only Interesting to Me

Watched the Indiana University / Ohio State football game today. OSU dominated the game in just about every phase. Which got me thinking a bit about something which has been sticking in my mind for a while. Player size. In the NFL size seems pretty negligible between teams but in college it seems, just by watching the game, that one team is just... well bigger.

I read somewhere that a high school team up north somewhere just refused to to play a game because of the size discrepancy. So with that I decided to look at starting rosters on OSU and IU. OSU's defense dominated so I looked at their D line verse IU's offensive line.

OSU's line is, on average, 27 pounds heavier and about the same height. Flipped around IU's O line is 15 lbs heavier, yes, but OSU has 2" in height.

I chose to look at lines because it was/is where games are won and lost. Weight alone doesn't necessarily mean strength or skill. Just bothers me sometimes how I hear on TV during games how some of these smaller schools should be considered to be ranked higher. Yeah, there are loads of other considerations that I should take into winning and loosing. Heart being the biggest thing... Coaching right after that.

But man, if your line is 30 lbs a man heavier? You're going to win.

OSU Gets Ripped by Ohio*

Ohio State University. An interesting place.

It is impossible to not get wrapped up in the largest University on the face of the planet. Don't ask why I'm taking the time to write about it, because I don't know for sure. It's Sunday though so in opening the Columbus Dispatch today I wasn't shocked to find the headline "RUDE AWAKENING" in large type face on the front page of Sports section. OSU did beat Ohio University yesterday but apparently not to the liking of the entire state.

To me it is no surprise that OU played well against OSU. Many of the players on both teams are born, bred and coached in this state. They probably played with or against each other in-between cornfields, factories and suburbs all over the state whilst growing up. Football, it is said, is single most direct representation of America and Ohio is essentially the cradle of sport. Over the past few years I've learnt that Ohio is truly the countries heart, good and bad. Woody Hayes, one of the most iconic figures in the history of the game and long time former coach for the Buckeyes, embodied not only OSU football but the entire state of Ohio. "Three yards and a cloud of dust." he once said about his run first mentality. Physically beat the other team to submission. He also said "I've had smarter people around me all my life, but I haven't run into one yet that can outwork me. And if they can't outwork you, then smarts aren't going to do them much good." I couldn't come up with a better way to describe the state and people of Ohio then those two quotes.

OSU's stadium can seat almost 110,000 people. It sells out every home game. Think about that. Getting that may people together on Saturdays during the fall is not just a sporting event, it's a historical phenomenon.

Hahahahaha. That clip gets me every time.

Woody Hayes was fired the day after that punch happened.

In other news UVA officials ban signs from games.
