Good Morning. Below is last week's viewership for all things soccer on television.
These numbers are from Nielsen. I record the information daily. Yes, YouTubeTV and Hulu Live are included in Nielsen's data. The number of subscribers to traditional cable is dropping (80m homes or so from +90m highs a decade ago) but it is starting to be offset by the live streaming services (approx 10m homes). No, MLS fans are not all streaming and therefore hurting the numbers here. Games on national TV aren't on a streaming service. Univision isn't regularly included because they are not measured by an independent service.
NOTES:
• You can just about start setting your clock to UEFA Champions League viewership. Around 800k + another 100-200k on Span-lang.
• No Premier League, MLS, FAWSL, or NWSL game on broadcast TV last week.
• The PL is up +14% YOY on USA Network vs NBCSN last year.
• MLS on ESPN is down -47% (5 gms)... on FS1 it is down -29% (7 gms).
• Liga MX on TUDN is up +4%.
• MLS interest on Span-lang networks is light this season. Only one game has finished in the top 150 cable shows on the day this month.
