1. Soccer got a mini spotlight on broadcast tv last week with three games spanning multiple leagues that, for me, say a lot about the order of things regarding the popularity of soccer in the US on English language TV. Here's the list:
525k - CBS NWSL Washington v Chicago
435k - ABC MLS Playoffs NYCFC v Atlanta
The NWSL and Premier League matches were on at the same time, as well. I wonder how much demo overlap is there. I suspect there is a lot. Had one or the other been on we might have seen a number 30% higher.
2. Liga MX playoffs/postseason is underway and they took the top two spots on cable last week. It's a rare win over the Premier League this year for Liga MX.
3. MLS Playoffs are getting off the ground. Their first couple of games weren't on English TV and didn't pull a notable number on TUDN. This past Sunday saw one game on broadcast (above) and another on cable (253k on ESPN). Both games were on ESPN Deportes but did not place in the top 150 cable shows on the week, which is likely due to the Liga MX postseason matches.
